What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a form of bodywork or alternative therapy focused primarily on the concept of “primary respiration” by using therapeutic touch. The therapy is carried out lying on a couch, fully clothed and involves very light touch from the therapist. A force fundamental to life underpins our very existence and works to keep us in optimal health at all times. It generates a rhythmic motion, a tide-like inhalation and exhalation that is subtle but expressed by each cell within our bodies and by all living organisms.

In health this fundamental life force will express in a balanced way but in cases of ill-health or trauma (physical or emotional) the balance and rhythm within your system will be disturbed, creating dis-ease and/or discomfort.

Your body naturally wants to find health and equilibrium, and through deep presence and light touch a Craniosacral therapist tunes into the subtle rhythms, supporting your body’s ability to regain its natural balance and health. A video created by the Craniosacral Therapy Association explains more about the treatment so feel free to take 5 minutes and view it here.

What conditions can it help with?

People may come for Craniosacral Therapy because they have acute physical problems like headaches or bad backs or long-standing problems, both physical and emotional. Others come for ongoing support in their busy lives and for help to meet life’s challenges. Individuals also seek treatment on a regular basis to feel a deep sense of relaxation and to increase energy and balance in their systems.

Because it is so gentle and non-invasive, Craniosacral Therapy is suitable for everyone from newborns to the elderly.

Lori completed a two-year training course studying Craniosacral Biodynamics with Franklyn Sills at the Karuna Institute in Devon and is a fully qualified therapist and a member of the Craniosacral Therapy Association (CSTA). If you would like more information about the therapy please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Lori.
